ERROR: ld.so: object 'gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. whoops.Apparently, VMWare comes with its own driver that supports Steam games. All rights reserved. That was my problem and it fixed the issue.

I ran aticonfig --uninstall and it told me some files have been changed and uninstalling is unwise. Something about OpenGL not working or missing after the last update (disabled legacy driver and did some terminal stuff related to installing the latest Catalyst drivers 12.13 but nothing has worked If anything it could rule out if X is causing the issue or not.
