It switches on and off just fine other than getting stuck at the splash screen. It was really quite simple, as suggested by WHS. What's going on? I am about to pull my hair out. Vista may show you the Windows Error Recovery screen or it may show you a similar screen, with more options, called Advanced Boot Options. Good chance they have pretty nasty malware in it! We do not need all the accessories, to test the computer!

Apps that were installed when that restore point was created will still be in place. In most cases, that's all you need, since all the things System Restore protects tend to be located on the system drive anyway.
