Apparently the ASP.NET runtime load occurs at a different point and that’s when things break.So how did this break? int Work but what if ... I also tried removing and adding features in a good order. Aspnet_regiis.exe /iru The final solution was to delete the 3.x module and handler from IIS manager.
On the machine level root’s Handler mappings I had an entry that looked like this:

You can resolve the problem by following any of the following: Re-register the .NET 4 framework of ASP.NET with IIS Force this module to be loaded only inside a 2.0 application have a peek here In my case, we already have a running IIS application using ASP.net 4.0 framework.
